Dinner with Terry "Aislin" Mosher

Last night, the Australian Cartoonists' Association (ACA) was proud to welcome Terry "Aislin" Mosher, a very talented Canadian cartoonist currently visiting Australia.

About 30 people attended the dinner in Aislin's honour. He gave a very good talk about cartooning in Canada and it was a great chance for ACA Members to meet again.

A big thank you to Steve Panozzo and Lindsay Foyle for organizing the event!

The Adventures of Jasper, by Glen Lovett

By chance, I happened to see an article of fellow Aussie Cartoonist Glen Lovett who now lives in Canada.

Glen is an amazing artist and I've ordered the first two books (graphic novels) of his "The Adventures of Jasper" series:

1. Lost in Skookum Valley
2. Secrets of the Petroglyph

Glen was kind enough to sign them for me and my kids (10 and 13). We all love the books!

The drawings are beautiful, the stories engaging, so yes, both books are excellent!

If you are a fan of Franco/Belge "Bande Dessinees", like me, you will enjoy these books!

Glen is currently drawing the third adventure of Jasper which will be set in Australia. Can't wait to see it finished so that I can order it!

Glen has agreed to an interview for Inkspot, the magazine of the Australian Cartoonists' Association. I am looking forward to sending Glen lots of questions and have more insights into his creative process.

Open Letter to the Australian Law Reform Commission

I strongly support Jason Chatfield's views against the changes currently envisaged by the Australian Law Reform Commission.

Jason is an amazingly talented cartoonist and comedian (www.jasonchatfield.com).

Stanley Awards Winners 2012

Last night, the 2012 Stanley Awards of the Australian Cartoonists' Association were awarded to:

Anton Emdin: Best Illustrator.

David Pope: Best Caricaturist.

Gary Clark: Best Comic Strip Artist.

David Pope: Best Editorial/Political Cartoonist.

Dean Alston: Best Single Gag Cartoonist.

David Follett: Best Comic Book Artist.

David Pope was also voted "Cartoonist of the Year", taking home, for 2012, a staggering 3 Stanley Awards!!!

It was a fabulous weekend. I'll post a few photos over the next few days...

Timelines Exhibition in Newcastle (Australia)

The Australian Cartoonists' Association (ACA) is organizing the "Timelines Exhibition" to coincide with the Stanley Awards next weekend (16/17 November 2012).

The ACA is holding the exhibition at the Newcastle Council’s “Lovett Gallery” which averages 2000 people through per week. The exhibition will be running for 5 weeks, starting on Friday the 16th of November 2012.

The exhibition will be opened by the Mayor of Newcastle on the Friday night of the Stanley Awards weekend, with cartoonists in attendance drawing on the far wall.

Newspapers and TV media will be covering the event.

So, if you live in Newcastle (Australia) or nearby, come and check this cartoon exhibition. Submissions from some of the best cartoonists in Australia, and some unknowns like me, have been received for the exhibition and I was told the Gallery's walls will be packed with cartoons!

I know at least one of my cartoons will be displayed, maybe even two as I sent two...
